You may have heard the many benefits of having your child learn another language, especially Spanish. Have you ever wondered why it’s so important for you to help your child learn Spanish?

First of all, the clearest reason is that we no longer live in an isolated society but a global one. Even in small towns that may feel remote, there is almost always a Spanish-speaking population contributing to the culture and workforce. There are probably several children at your child’s school, perhaps even in his own class, whose primary language is Spanish. Encouraging your child to speak Spanish will better equip him to communicate with those children as well as other Spanish-speaking people he will undoubtedly meet as he becomes older.

Secondly, studies have shown over and over being bilingual is very beneficial to children’s cognitive development. In her book Raising Bilingual Children (Mars Publishing, 2003), Carey Miles writes that “Bilingualism has been linked to a variety of positive cognitive benefits, including early reading, improved problem-solving skills, and higher scores on the SATs, including the math section.” Children who are fluent in two (or several) languages will probably have more employment opportunities once they graduate and begin the process of looking for a job

Another reason is the sheer joy of speaking a second language well. Not only is it fun to practice and use, it opens up possibilities of traveling to or living in another country where Spanish is spoken. A teenager who has been brought up speaking Spanish will have no hesitation in joining an exchange program or similar learning opportunity, which can be an experience that may change his or her life. Regardless of what your reason is for helping your child learn Spanish, you need to know where to get started. We’ve come up with some easy steps you can take to introduce and instill a love of Spanish in your child.

Learn together

You won’t be very successful in teaching your child Spanish if you don’t know any yourself. If Spanish is completely new to you, view this as the perfect opportunity to expand your own knowledge and skills. All children learn better when their parents are active participants in what they’re learning. Who knows! You may be surprised at how fast and well you can learn to speak another language.

Read, read, read!

Reading is, of course, one of the best forms of learning. Simple children’s books that have been translated into Spanish can make a big impression on your child. One of the things that children do best is associating the pictures they’re looking at with what they’re hearing. There are many well-read and well-loved books, such as Curious George and Dr. Seuss books, that can be found in a Spanish version. Try finding a book that your child is familiar with in English so that he already knows the words. Alternatively, read a book in English to your child then read the same book in Spanish immediately afterwards.

Incorporate playing games

Children learn many things through playing games. Spanish is no different. They won’t even know they are learning! There is a variety of well-known games, such as Monopoly and Operation, available in Spanish. Some Spanish-learning software programs include different vocabulary and knowledge games as well.

Take advantage of the computer

Children today spend a lot of time on the computer and are therefore very comfortable with using it. Find a good software package that has different components designed to help your child learn Spanish in an enjoyable way. The benefit of software over just books or CDs is that it can be very multi-faceted in its learning tools. Games, lessons, audio files, text, quizzes, and other resources can be kept in one place and used one at a time or several at a time, as needed.

The information presented here should give you a good start in the direction of helping your child learn Spanish. Have fun together and enjoy the language!

Help your child learn Spanish faster and better. Find more resources start learning together today!

Note: This is Part 2. For Part one, see Learn Spanish Quick

2. Set Appropriate Deadlines

If you’re not working with a deadline, it’ll be hard to learn Spanish quickly. After all, you need to be certain that you don’t end up getting lazy or putting things off. If you’re in a face to face class, some deadlines will be set for you, but if you’d like to learn faster, you might want to set your own. Mini-goals are a great way to do this. One possible mini-goal is to have a beginning knowledge of Spanish language structure after a week. That means knowing pronunciation, sentence structure, and a decent vocabulary of basic terms. If you’re not working with deadlines, you’re going to have a lot more trouble.

3. Don’t Worry Too Much

While it can seem like learning Spanish quick would be a stressful activity, it shouldn’t be. Don’t stress out or let anxiety take over. You’ll just end up overworking yourself, burning out, and losing time. Taking the time to pace yourself correctly will be a big benefit if you’d like to get a working grasp of the language in a short time. If you feel rushed or pressured, take a short break, then go back to it more calmly. You might be surprised by how effective just spending a day or so working on something else can be. You’ll learn faster when you come back after taking the time to relax.

Lots of people want to learn Spanish quickly and easily. It’s not as hard as it sounds, either. But it’s not going to happen magically or overnight. You have to take the time and put in the effort to learn things properly. That means setting goals, choosing the right learning program, and keeping yourself on track. It might not be as easy as you’d like it to be, but the end result will be a better command of the Spanish language. That’s worth it. Take the time to set things up right, and you’re sure to learn Spanish quickly, and without too much hassle. That’s all there is to it.

Want to learn Spanish quickly? Many people do. After all, this is an incredibly useful language for people all over the world. Spanish has one of the widest ranges of speakers of any language, and is a very popular second language for native English Speakers. However, it usually takes a long time. So many Spanish students find themselves trudging along, learning a few words at a time, and unable to hold a conversation. However, if you know what you’re doing, you can get a decent grasp of this interesting and useful language in just a few weeks.

Will you be as proficient as a native Spanish speaker? Of course not, but you’ll be able to handle yourself in this language in a relatively short period of time. If you want to learn Spanish quick, these tips and tricks are a good place to start. It’s not magical, and you still need to put in plenty of work, but it can really speed up your learning process. Here’s how to learn Spanish quickly, and relatively easily, too.

1. Choose a course.

While you can learn Spanish on your own, your knowledge will have holes in it and you won’t progress all that quickly. You can choose a course at your local college, community center or other location, or check out classes online. The big benefit of in person instruction is that you have someone to correct you when you’re not pronouncing something correctly or when you’re phrasing it wrong. The big benefit of learning online is that you get to work at your own pace, going through each lesson as quickly as you want to. Instructors might hold you and the rest of the class to a pace that’s slower than you prefer. Find out which kind of course you want to take, and make sure you do your research first. That’s the first key to learning Spanish quick.

If you want to boost your knowledge of Spanish, it may be of some help to find out more about how to learn Spanish online. Today, there are a number of programs available that will enable you to learn quickly and at an affordable price. That said, once you purchase the software, you will still need to use it in a way that ensures you will learn Spanish in the shortest time possible. Typically, if you keep three key elements in mind, you will have a better chance of achieving your desired level of proficiency in Spanish.

1) Choose a Program That Appeals to You

Find out more about how to learn Spanish online, you will find that some methods are more expensive than others. While you may be tempted to go with the cheapest potion that you can find, it may seem very unappealing to you.

On the other hand, if you spend a few extra dollars for something that you can be comfortable with, you will have a better chance of sticking with the program. No matter how you look at it, you will be spending a good bit of time studying and practicing Spanish. The worst thing you can do is select a program that feels tedious or boring.

2) Set Aside Enough Study Time

When you are planning to figure out how to learn Spanish online, you will need to make sure that you have enough time to study. Unfortunately, there is no such thing as a viable “flexible schedule” if you never get around to working with the software. You will also find that setting aside a specific time each day will help you focus on your lessons more easily. Depending on your personal preferences, you may find it a bit difficult to adjust to a study schedule when you do not have a teacher or other individual around to set the pace for you.

3) Make Use of All Available Enrichment Activities

While you are researching how to learn Spanish online, you will find that some programs come with a wide range of enrichment aides. For example, some programs have games, puzzles, video clips, and recorded verbalization sessions. As may be expected, you will be more drawn to some learning aides more than others. Nevertheless, you should strive to take a balanced approach that makes use of each facet of the language acquisition program. This will help you strength core skills, as well as ensure that you do not miss valuable information.

Even though you may be struggling to learn a second language, knowing how to learn Spanish online will be of immense benefit to you. Chances are, once you master Spanish using this method, you will also be able to learn other languages. If you are planning to travel to a number of foreign locations, or you simply want to acquire a large number of languages, online computer programs may represent your best, and cheapest opportunity.

Choosing to learn a second language will be highly beneficial to you in the future. However, you must take the right route to get the best results and starting out with a beginner’s course is the best way forward. Beginner’s Spanish for example will form the basis of your learning, enabling you to learn the language in the correct order to eliminate confusion or missing grammar further down the line.

Learning to take on a new language can seem daunting at first and it can only be achieved by those who are dedicated to the learning process and understanding to the need of learning from the beginning. Those who rush will not be doing themselves any favors. If you have made the decision to make Spanish your second language then feel a little relieved in the knowledge that it is considered one of the easiest tongues to learn for the English speaker. Its grammar is deemed as relatively uncomplicated and the irregularities are far fewer than in other languages.

Let’s explain some of the formalities you can expect from taking up a course in beginner’s Spanish.

Vocabulary

The emphasis on vocabulary in the beginning is crucial at giving you the best start. A good course will teach you the basic words and phrases first, similar to those you would use in every day situations such as greetings ‘hola’, ‘buenos dias’ etc. Learning a few nouns to help you identify commonly used objects such as your car – ‘coche’ or knowing how to introduce members of your family – ‘esta es mi madre’, meaning ‘this is my mother’. Owning your own dictionary will be helpful at all levels, but use sparingly in the beginning – concentrating solely on the most common words and phrases in the Spanish language. The right beginner’s course will be designed to allow you to get involved with basic conversations instantly.

Grammar

The grammar of Spanish differs slightly to English and it is not just a case of translating a phrase word by word. The sentence order will be one of the first things you will learn when taking up a beginner’s course in Spanish. For example, when we describe a noun we use an adjective. In English we would say something like ‘the fast car’. When we translate this into Spanish the word order is different, with the adjective coming after the noun rather than before it – ‘el coche rapido’. Such grammar basics will be taught in the correct order to give you the greatest understanding. A beginner’s course will also cover the basics of tenses such as past and present tense. It will include all the necessary principles of using verbs within a phrase and how they change according to the person (I, you, he, she etc).

How you progress through a course depends on your personal ability at picking up new languages, with some people having a natural talent for it and others requiring to go over new words and grammar concepts several times before it sinks in. The amount of time you can spare to learn will also be a factor but generally speaking – a beginner’s Spanish course will be the best way to start learning. Learning online has had miraculous results for many people – you can choose your own pace and always have your course content at had to refer to time and time again.
